We are very conveniently located at the centre of Malacca city, making us easily accessible for people who live locally and for visitors to the city. Please refer to the location map for details.
The church family is a friendly community welcoming all people. Our members have been with us for various periods of time – from almost 50 years in the church to those who’ve joined recently. We come from all walks of life – there are students, homemakers, and professionals including teachers, social workers, doctors, counsellors, paramedics, even a flying instructor all drawn together through the love for Christ.
Our leadership has a collective experience of over 200 years in church life, providing a blend of mature experience and younger dynamism. Jesus is the central focus of what we believe. We focus on practical needs in society, undertaking programs that reach out and benefit the community. We also partner with other churches on some events and activities, upholding His larger Church. We place a keen emphasis on training and equipping people across the church so they can be the best that they can be, using their God given gifts.
On long weekends and special occasions, we have visitors worshipping with us from neighbouring cities like Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Singapore. We also occasionally have guest speakers from out of town giving the sermon message.
So whether you’re a Malaccan looking for a church, an expatriate looking for a church to call home for the period of your stay, or a short term visitor to Malacca – we really look forward to welcoming you and have you worship with us.
A BRIEF HISTORY:
Malacca Evangelical Free Church (MEFC) turned 50 years on November 17, 2013. It was started by EFC missionaries and local individuals who prepared the ground for a new church starting from scratch – distributing tracts and bearing Christian witness. In 1963 an old government building was rented as a meeting place and MEFC held its first worship service there. The church was officially registered with the Malaysian government as a society in 1978. Nationwide, EFC currently has 15 member churches – 2 in Malacca, 1 each in Ipoh and Seremban and 11 in the Klang Valley – who meet regularly for mutual fellowship, encouragement, advice and cooperation. It is part of the Asia-wide and global network of EFC churches.
In 2006, the old bungalow the church had been occupying since 1960s was torn down and rebuilt to seat 150 people, fully financed by the church members together with the purchase of the semi-detached house next door. MEFC has been a ‘sending church’. A number of young people have built their faith foundation at MEFC and then gone on to be leaders in churches elsewhere. Several other youth also entered full-time ministry with Christian organisations from the 1990s onwards.
With 50 years of strong foundation, MEFC is still evolving, creating new vision, to move forward in His cause.
